- Persistent fogging covering reverse camera sightline
- LED flicker or brake light out warning

## Repair cost: Tesla vs independent shop vs DIY

| --- | --- |
| Tesla Service Center | $280 - $420 (Tesla sells complete new light unit) |
| Independent shop | $60 - $110 |
| DIY | $8 - $18 (Breather patches & silicone RTV) |

## Can an independent shop fix it?

Can be repaired at home or at any auto body shop by unclogging the Gore-Tex breather valve patch and resealing the perimeter gasket.

## How to fix it yourself (easy, 45 Minutes)

Unbolt the two 8mm taillight nuts, dry out the internal housing using a hairdryer, and install a fresh hydrophobic breathable patch.

### Tools you need

- 8mm Socket & Ratchet
- Hair Dryer / Heat Gun on low
- Replacement Gore-Tex Adhesive Breather Patches

### Steps

1. Pop open the trunk and pull back the small rubber inspection grommets to reach the two 8mm nuts.
2. Slide the taillight housing rearward out of the quarter panel.
3. Remove the rear bulb plug and inspect the small white Gore-Tex breather membrane on the back.
4. Blow warm air through the bulb socket until all internal moisture evaporates completely.
5. Peel and apply a new waterproof breathable patch over the vent hole and remount the light.

**Pro tip:** Minor misting that clears within 20 minutes of driving is normal per Tesla service specs. Heavy water droplets pooling at the bottom require vent patch resealing.
