❓ Common Questions

## Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions regarding Tesla maintenance, third-party repairs, charging, and warranty rights.

### Does repairing parts at home or using an independent shop void my Tesla warranty?

▼

No. Replacing standard wear-and-tear and mechanical components such as cabin filters, 12V batteries, wipers, tires, brake pads, or control arms does not void the overall vehicle warranty or the battery/drive unit warranty. Under consumer protection laws (such as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act in the US and equivalent global regulations), warranty coverage is only affected if an improperly installed third-party part directly causes damage to a related system.

### Can non-Tesla electric vehicles use any Supercharger?

▼

Non-Tesla EVs can charge at all Superchargers equipped with **Magic Dock** (built-in CCS1 adapter) as well as over 20,000+ V3 and V4 Supercharger stalls when using an approved NACS DC fast-charging adapter. Supported brands currently include Ford, Rivian, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Volvo, Polestar, and Mercedes-Benz.

### How do I access Tesla Service Mode on the touchscreen?

▼

Navigate to **Controls > Software**. Press and hold the vehicle model badge (e.g., Model Y or Cybertruck) under the car graphic for 3 to 5 seconds. In the access code popup dialog, type `service` (all lowercase) and tap confirm. This activates factory-level diagnostics, thermal loop testing, and battery health degradation tests.

### Which repairs should NEVER be attempted at home?

▼

High-voltage internal battery pack module replacements, 400V–800V inverter line servicing, and air conditioning refrigerant recovery (R1234yf) should never be attempted in a home garage. These procedures involve lethal electrical currents or specialized reclamation equipment and must strictly be performed by certified EV laboratories.
