Tesla & EV Repair Guide for Turkey
The faults that come up most often in owner forums and complaint aggregators such as Tesla Motors Club, Mach-E Forum, GoingElectric and Şikayetvar (Turkey's largest consumer complaint site), including the Model Y Juniper, BYD and Togg. Each card covers the symptom, why it fails, how it gets fixed, the Turkish price where we could find one, and repair videos. This edition also adds the current US recall and investigation list, three new fault cards, and a rights, service and cost section for Tesla owners living in the US (California).
High-voltage warning: The orange cables, battery pack, ICCU, contactors and drive unit carry 400–800 V. No DIY on any of these; use an authorized service center or an EV-certified technician. Jobs marked "DIY" below cover 12 V and mechanical parts only.

Not official, a YouTuber's claim; excludes labor and VAT (KDV), and the data is about a year old.
I couldn't find current, verified TL prices for labor; independent shops quote after an initial inspection (e.g. Auto King). Damage caused by work done at a shop that isn't Tesla-approved may not be covered by the warranty. Dollar prices on the cards are US data.
USA · NHTSA · as of October 22, 2026
Recall and investigation tracker NEW
Open files at NHTSA, the US traffic safety agency. These are official only for vehicles in the US; they don't automatically cover cars in Turkey. But the Model Ys sold in Turkey are built in Berlin and Shanghai with the same parts, so if you have the same symptom, open a service request in the Tesla app and cite these files. An investigation (PE) is not a recall yet.
Model 3 2018–2020, Model Y 2021–2023 (≈ 1.2 million)
The front lower lateral link can detach, and steering control can be lost. 156 complaints, most with no prior warning; no crashes reported. Opened July 29, 2026.
If you hear a clunk from the front, take the car in right away and mention this investigation.

Some 2026 Model Y
Front suspension fasteners may not have been torqued properly.
Tesla will tighten or replace them free of charge; owner letters go out in the US on October 30, 2026.
"12V battery needs service" alert, a string of errors on the screen, the car won't wake up or the doors won't open.
Cause
Pre-2021 cars have a lead-acid 12 V battery, and most die within 12–24 months. Newer cars have a 16 V lithium battery.
Fix
Replace the battery. First check whether your car has a 12 V or a 16 V battery. Disconnect the terminals in the order given in the service manual; the wrong order can damage the DC-DC converter. If you like, you can fit a lithium replacement (e.g. Ohmmu).
Moderate$300–1000TR: 1,381–3,257 TL / part60,000–110,000 km
Symptom
Clunking, popping or knocking from the front over bumps; creaking when turning the steering wheel in cold weather.
Cause
The rubber bushings in the front lower lateral link (lower lateral link / caster arm) tear. The creak usually comes from an upper control arm ball joint that has run out of grease.
Fix
For the creak, try greasing the upper ball joint first (free). For the clunk, replace the lower rear arms or the whole control arm set (MEYLE HD, Unplugged, EVANNEX). A wheel alignment is a must after the swap.
Do not driveNHTSA PE26006TR: control arm from 1,381 TL
Symptom
Often no symptoms at all until it breaks. Some owners heard a clunk beforehand. When it lets go, the wheel turns outward, the steering pulls hard, and the car leaves on a tow truck.
Cause
A US investigation is ongoing. According to NHTSA, the 156 complaints go beyond the scope of earlier small recalls (21V-835, 23V-235) and don't look like the same manufacturing defect. Worn bushings on this same link are also the source of the classic Model 3/Y clunk described above.
Fix
If the car pulls to one side or a wheel looks crooked, don't drive it; call Tesla Roadside Assistance. If you've had a clunk before, have the links inspected and keep the service record. If you pay for the repair yourself now, keep the invoice; a recall and reimbursement may follow later.
Model Y 2021 (and other Teslas with electric doors)
Doors won't open when the 12 V battery dies NEW
SafetyNHTSA investigationPrevention is DIY
Symptom
Exterior handles and door buttons don't respond, usually right after a "12V battery needs service" alert. In summer, some parents ended up locked outside with a child inside.
Cause
The door latches are electric. Once the low-voltage battery dies, there's no mechanical way to open them from outside.
Fix
Never put off a 12 V alert; replace the battery (see the first card). Show everyone the interior manual release (on the front doors, ahead of the window switches; the rear doors vary by model). On a Model 3/Y with a completely dead battery, connecting a jump starter to the two wires behind the front tow hook cover opens the frunk so you can reach the battery. If someone is trapped inside, call 112 (911 in the US).
BMS alerts (e.g. BMS_u029, BMS_f107), "Maximum battery charge level reduced", sudden range loss, the car won't charge or won't move.
Cause
Often it isn't the whole pack: a single weak module or cell group, coolant leaking into the pack, or a faulty sensor or contactor. Hot climates speed up degradation.
Fix
2026 US prices: a complete pack at Tesla runs $10,000–16,000 ($20,000+ in tough cases), a remanufactured pack at an independent shop $8,000–12,000, and a module-only repair, where possible, $2,000–7,000. The Turkish price is in the table above. Get the diagnosis in writing, ask for the old modules back, and confirm the shop can perform Tesla's software calibration after the job.
Smoke smell gets into the cabin, the filter turns black quickly, ash builds up on the paint and glass. Common in California every fire season, and in Turkey in summer along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts.
Cause
Fine particles can get past the standard filter and the door seals.
Fix
On the Model S, X and Y, turn on Bioweapon Defense Mode: the HEPA filter and positive cabin pressure keep smoke from seeping in through the seals. The Model 3 has HEPA but not the full mode. Keep the windows closed and use recirculation. After the season, replace the cabin filters early and rinse ash off with plenty of water; wiping it dry scratches the paint.
The handle doesn't extend, extends only halfway, or gets stuck out.
Cause
The microswitches, plastic gear and wiring harness inside the handle fail at 65,000–130,000 km.
Fix
First pull the fuse for 2 minutes and reinsert it (an owner tip, not guaranteed). If that doesn't work, rebuild the handle with a microswitch and gear repair kit, and as a last resort replace the whole module. When buying a car, try every handle several times.
Black screen, constant reboots, loss of the backup camera, sometimes inability to charge.
Cause
The 8 GB eMMC memory in MCU1 reaches the end of its write life.
Fix
Tesla replaced it free of charge under a recall; check with your VIN. Independent shops swap the chip for a larger one via BGA soldering, or the car can be upgraded to MCU2.
"Cabin heating limited or unavailable" alert, cold air from the vents, the windshield won't defog.
Cause
In 2022 a software bug left a heat pump valve open and stopped the compressor. If it persists on current software, it may be the Octovalve, a sensor or a refrigerant leak.
Fix
Update the software (leave the car on Wi-Fi) and keep the climate control on Auto. If the alert persists, book a service appointment in the app; it needs a diagnostic tool.
Videos
I couldn't find a reliable DIY video; this job needs proper diagnosis.
Rattling or a "tunk" sound from the front at low speed on rough roads. Reported on RWD, AWD and Performance.
Cause
Sources disagree: the rubber bump stop between the shock and the upper control arm mount, the thin support braces (pencil braces), or an upper control arm ball joint that takes on water and rusts. Some noises from the rear come from loose C-pillar trim.
Fix
Open a warranty service request and ask whether an applicable service bulletin exists. For some owners, replacing the upper control arm mount and removing the support braces reduced the noise but didn't eliminate it. Lowering springs or coilovers don't cure it and sometimes make it worse.
Whistling from the front windows on the highway, the glass doesn't seat fully in the upper seal, auto up/down stops working.
Cause
The window regulator calibration drifts; on some cars the seal or the door alignment is off.
Fix
First recalibrate the window from Service Mode or manually (lower the window all the way, hold the switch, then raise it). If there's still noise, install an add-on seal kit; if the seal doesn't help, take it to service for a door alignment.
The door won't open from the screen or the app, and the charging cable won't come out of the port.
Cause
The latch pin freezes or the door actuator fails.
Fix
First stop charging and try "Unlatch" on the screen. Then pull the manual release cable on the side panel in the trunk (with charging stopped). In winter, preconditioning (Defrost Car) frees up the latch.
Hard braking on Autopilot or adaptive cruise control with no obstacle ahead, mostly on the highway.
Cause
Camera-based perception mistaking a shadow, an overpass or an oncoming car for an obstacle.
Fix
There's no mechanical fix. Keep the software up to date, clean the windshield cameras, keep your foot near the accelerator on problem roads, and report incidents to Tesla and NHTSA.
"Power Limited" warning, loss of propulsion within 20–45 minutes, a 12 V battery that keeps going flat, no AC charging.
Cause
MOSFETs burn out in the DC-DC converter inside the ICCU, which charges the 12 V battery, and an internal fuse blows. Forums also talk about coolant leaks and overheating (unconfirmed).
Fix
Check for the recall with your VIN (US Recall 257 / Campaign 997 software update). If code P1A9096 is present, the dealer replaces the ICCU and the high-voltage fuse. Some owners lower their AC charging current.
Software freezes, charging cuts out, doors won't open
Reset first, then serviceOTA update
Symptom
Laggy menus, frozen maps, the car locking itself, getting stuck in standby, an "energy system fault". At some stations charging won't start or stops partway. The door won't open by hand, only with the key fob. The internet connection drops.
Cause
Most issues are software-related and get fixed by OTA updates, though they can come back in some versions. Some involve a high-voltage or onboard charger (OBC) fault. A weak 12 V battery also triggers various electronic warnings.
Fix
First update TruOS and try the DTC reset / system reset shown in the video. For charging problems, try different AC and DC stations, keep the charge inlet dry and clean, and note the results for the service center. If it continues, have the 12 V battery and the OBC checked at an authorized service center. For repeat faults, some owners have requested a replacement vehicle on Şikayetvar.
The car goes completely unresponsive without warning, the screen goes dark, the doors won't open. The radio turns itself on while parked. On the Seal, owners also report overly sensitive driver-assist warnings and phantom braking.
Cause
A weak lead-acid battery in early batches, low charging voltage from the DC-DC converter, and the car failing to go to sleep with some home chargers. If the car sits for 2 weeks or longer, the battery goes flat. The stock battery lasts 18–24 months on average.
Fix
First ask the dealer whether the BMS / gateway software update has been applied; it makes the main battery top up the 12 V battery more often. Then replace the battery with a quality AGM or lithium equivalent (on the Atto 3 it's under the front hood, and the swap is simple). If you're parking long-term, leave the car plugged in.
Range drops by half, capacity bars disappear from the gauge, isolation fault.
Cause
There's no active liquid cooling; cells age quickly in the heat and with frequent DC fast charging. A single bad cell drags down the whole pack.
Fix
Check the cell voltages with LeafSpy. If one module is bad, replace it and balance the pack; with general degradation, upgrade to a larger-capacity used pack.

If you own a Tesla in California NEW
California is the largest Tesla market in the US: the Model Y was the state's most-registered vehicle in the first nine months of 2026 (86,099 units). The rules below apply to California only. For a more detailed version, see our California EV Repair Guide.
Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR)
Your rights at the repair shop
Written estimate first. It must itemize the total for parts and labor and the work to be done.
No surprise charges. The shop must get your approval before going over the estimate.
Itemized invoice: every part and labor charge listed separately; used or rebuilt parts must be identified.
The old parts are yours if you ask for them when signing the work order. Always ask on battery jobs.
Check the shop's registration at bar.ca.gov; complaint line 800-952-5210. The small claims court limit for individuals is $12,500.
Covers new and used vehicles still under warranty. If a defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts (at least two), the manufacturer must buy back or replace the vehicle. Law firms also cite 30+ days in the shop as a benchmark.
Battery, motor, charging and software faults that affect the vehicle are included. Keep every service record; free state-certified arbitration is available.
2025 change: AB 1755 introduced a statute of limitations, pre-suit notice to the manufacturer, short response deadlines and mandatory mediation. SB 26 (April 2, 2025) made this process optional for manufacturers; which process applies depends on the brand.
If you sell a car with a lemon claim pending, you must disclose it to the buyer in writing.
Tesla Service: book through the Tesla app. Recalls, warranty, high-voltage and software work go here. For jobs like the 12 V battery, wipers and filters, ask for Mobile Service.
Tesla-approved body shops:Amato's Auto Body (San Diego), Diamond Hills Collision (LA / Orange County). In California, your insurer can't force a shop on you; you choose.
Tesla's battery warranty is 8 years; the mileage limit varies by model and version.
CARB rules add a state floor: a zero-emission vehicle's powertrain is covered for at least 3 years / 50,000 miles; model year 2026 and later batteries must retain at least 70% of their energy, rising to 75% at 8 years / 100,000 miles by 2031.
In 2025 the US Congress revoked California's ACC II waiver, and litigation is ongoing; confirm the terms that apply to your own VIN.
The federal tax credit ended for purchases after September 30, 2025.
MyFirstEV (August 7, 2026): for first-time EV buyers, $3,500 on a new car up to $50,000, or $1,750 on a dealer-certified used car up to $25,000. Participating brands only; eligibility of Tesla models is limited.
